Consumer unit upgrades

Consumer unit changes are usually notifiable under Part P and should be certified to BS 7671.

What this covers

Replacing outdated fuse boxes with modern consumer units and RCD protection.

Do this first

• Keep clear of sparking fittings, burning smells or flood water near electrics.
• Do not keep resetting a breaker or RCD that trips immediately.
• Note which rooms lost power and photograph the consumer unit if it is safe.
