What to do now

Stay safe around electrics, note what you see, then request a visit.

1. Keep clear of sparking fittings, burning smells or water near electrics.
2. Switch off at the consumer unit only if it is safe and you know which device to use.
3. Do not keep resetting an RCD or breaker that trips immediately.
4. Note which rooms are affected and photograph the consumer unit if safe.
5. Send the request form.
6. Contact your insurer or landlord if appropriate.
